Pool Leak Detection

Pool leak detection is the process of discovering the precise location of a leak in a pool system. Pool leaks left unaddressed can be costly, wasting large amounts of water and chemicals making it very difficult to keep the pool water clean. They also erode soil causing settlement and damage to the pool and surrounding decking. In some cases leaks can even be dangerous by causing a failure of the pool structure. For these reasons it is important that leaks are located and repaired as soon as the symptoms of a leak appear.

Leaks can occur in virtually any part of a pool system including the shell or liner, exposed & underground plumbing and at the equipment. Leaks are often very difficult to discover as they can be as small as a pinhole and located in buried or concealed areas of the pool. Long periods of rain can often hide a leak, and the evaporation caused by high heat, humidity and wind can sometimes make confirming an actual leak challenging. That is why water loss detection and accurate leak detection are the important first steps in repairing a leaking pool.

The process of first diagnosing the amount of water loss, then physically locating a pool leak is a multi-step procedure. Each pool system is different and requires specific steps to ensure leaks are found both efficiently and accurately.

Specialized tools and equipment are utilized depending on the pool type. For instance, concrete pools require different tools and techniques compared to vinyl liner or fiberglass pools. However there are some important methods that apply to all types of pools.

Once the leaks are pinpointed, detailed markings and photos are generated for the report. And further testing is performed to ensure all possible leaks in the system are found at the time of inspection.
